every year at mt smart stadium in auckland Big Day Out - a music festival made up of act after act of music talent spread out over about 9 stages - is heald for the heards of fans from across the country.
to be honest this year i wasn't that excited. sure there were people i would love to go and see, but most of them were local acts that i could easily see any time. but, none the less, i headed along like the 135,000 other music junkies.
usually before the day you would grab a copy of the time table and circle which bands you wanted to see and when and where and try to map how your day would be taking extra care not to miss anything important. this year i did none of that. i just rocked up to the gates and decided to take what comes and have a fairly care-free day.
this year the bands playing were: Rage Against the Machine, Bjork, Arcade Fire, Shihad, LCD Soundsystem, Scribe, Unkle, Dizzee Rascal, Supergroove, Battles, The Clean, Katchafire, Carl Cox, Krafty Cuts and MC Dynamite, The Phoenix Foundation, Billy Bragg, SJD, Grinspoon, Hilltop Hoods, Bleeders, Paul Kelly, Anti-Flag, The Nightwatchman, Tiki Taane, Dr Octagon and Kutmaster Kurt, Liam Finn, Cut Off Your Hands, Kate Nash, Op Shop, Pluto, Die! Die! Die!, Havoc, Collapsing Cities, Enter Shakiri, Operator Please, Shy Child, Brand New, Spoon, Dam Native, The Checks, Young Sid, Antagonist, Motocade, White Birds and Lemons, Spoon, Aceyalone, The Shocking Pinks, Missing Teeth, DJ Mu, Battle Circus, Surf City, Dick ‘Magik’ Johnson, False Start, All Left Out, The Kingsland Vinyl Appreciation Society, The Electric Confectionaires, Kerretta, The Lookie Loos, Pig Out, Solstate, The Exiles.

sure thats a lot of bands... but idk, i wasn't really in the mood to watch any in particular. the main acts i wanted to see were bjork (naturally), arcade fire (naturally), dizzee rascal, battles, kate nash, shy child, and lcd sound system. the others i was mehh about.
but it was a good day in the end. bjork was amazing. so was arcade, and dizzee rascal was over-the-top wicked.
i'm too tired to write more haha but i think you get the idea, it was a good day. if only it wasn't so hot, and if only water wasn't $4.50 a bottle :/
